The last few months have been trying for everyone, to say the least.

Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in mid-March, leading up to this current state of social unrest, we have all experienced the full gamut of emotions and challenges. But even in these dark times, there is plenty of light if you know where to look – and we can all create our own as well.

Something that is often neglected during times of duress are ways in which we can not only help our neighbors but also promote and generate a bevvy of good in the process. Here are some simple things we can all do – right now, today – that will go a long way toward a more peaceful, loving life.

Everyone has a different situation – personally, emotionally, financially, and spiritually. It is important to not judge, but rather to empathize and understand that all of us have our own challenges, interests, and needs. Respecting and understanding others’ situations and helping one another when needed can create a sense of camaraderie and calmness in our communities.

Patience is not just a virtue. It’s a power – one that we all have within us. Just as with understanding someone, being patient with our friends, families and neighbors can promote positivity and togetherness, which only makes our community stronger.

The simplest acts of kindness go further than we realize. Normal, everyday things like saying hello to your neighbor and asking about their day, holding a door for someone, or allowing someone to go ahead of you in line are just some ways you can improve someone’s – and your own – mood and self-esteem. When these become part of our daily habits, our general happiness has no choice but to increase.
