21-year-old ticketed for going off trail
A 21-year-old Streamwood man was flown from Utica to a regional hospital for injuries sustained Tuesday afternoon after he fell into Lone Tree Canyon at Starved Rock State Park.
Juan Perez was issued a citation for going off trail, resulting in falling 30 feet and then tumbling an additional 10 feet through elevated tree roots, said Conservation police Sgt. Phil Wire.
A condition report was not immediately available.
Wire said Perez was found alert when first-responders arrived, but then lost consciousness. Conservation police learned from Perez's companion he was climbing off trail.
Ottawa River Rescue, Utica firefighters and EMS, as well as the OSF LifeFlight crew responded to the scene and took him to a helicopter waiting in a field across from Grand Bear Resort at Starved Rock. Utica and Oglesby firefighters assisted at the liftoff scene.
