Elizabeth Orwig and Cole Adams have been named as the 2020 recipients of the Teddy and Barbara Reed Scholarship at Princeton High School.

Orwig was captain for the PHS cross country, poms and track teams.

She was the recipient of the Keith Schultz Memorial Award at PHS, was the female nominee for the IHSA All-Academic Team and won the Outstanding Senior Athlete and IHSA Scholastic Award.

Orwig coached for Special Olympics Basketball where she helped in practices and games and “encouraged kids to just have fun.”

“This experience was so valuable and led to my decision of wanting to teach Special Education,” said Orwig, who will attend Western Illinois University.

Adams was valedictorian. He was a member of the National Honor Society and the recipient of the Keith Schultz Memorial Award and the IHSA Scholastic Achievement Award.

He participated in basketball, football, tennis and golf. He said trying new sports like tennis and golf taught him to “keep an eye open and be willing to try new things,” and provided him with new friendships, skills and leadership opportunities he may not have had otherwise.

Adams will be attending the University of Wisconsin, majoring in mechanical engineering.
