ROCK ISLAND — James Macklin, a standout athlete from Bureau Valley High School in Manlius, has announced that he’ll be enrolling at Augustana in the fall and plans on joining Coach Steve Bell’s Viking football program.

A 5-10, 195-pound fullback and linebacker, Macklin earned two varsity letters for coaches Joe Schmitt and Mat Pistole at Bureau Valley. He rushed for 121 yards this past fall.

Macklin also lettered for the Storm in baseball and basketball.

Macklin is the son of Jill and Damon Macklin of Walnut. The Three-Rivers Academic All-Conference honoree is anticipating a business administration major at Augustana.

Macklin joins a Viking program with an outstanding tradition that includes four NCAA Division III national championships, 21 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin titles, 23 CCIW Players of the Year and 33 Academic All-America selections.

Coach Bell, who has compiled a 130-76 record in 20 years as a collegiate head coach, will be in his sixth season at Augustana in 2020.
