ESMOND — Julia M. Weiss, 95, of Esmond, formerly of Hennepin, passed away Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018, at her residence, with her loving family by her side.
Julia was born April 15, 1923, in Ladd to Albert and Lena (Brassea) Tasi. Julia and Manley Weiss were married on Jan. 5, 1942.
Julia and Manley moved to Hennepin in the late 1940s and quickly became fervent members of the community. Together they purchased a city block, on what was then the outskirts of town, and built their first home which is now the Hennepin Village Hall. After making Hennepin their home, they built, owned and operated Hennepin Landing & Marina until retiring.
Julia was a business woman known as “Boss” to most, but she was also a confidant, daughter, wife, sister, mother, friend and pillar of strength and courage. Julia’s first love was her family. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden for hours on end, walking her dog and sharing her cooking, canning and sewing.
Survivors include her daughter, Amanda Holm of Esmond: three grandchildren, Lisa Holm of Esmond, Rebecca Holm of Hennepin and William D. Holm of Milwaukee, Wis.; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ester of Morris, Elaine of Ottawa and Vera of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and her husband.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at the Dysart-Cofoid Funeral Chapel in Granville with the Rev. Dola Gregory officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Hennepin. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial gathering will be held prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the funeral home.
