Annawan wins ninth straight regional

The Annawan Bravettes took their first step to defend their state championship, defeating host Ottawa Marquette 68-36 in Thursday’s regional finals in Marseilles.

Senior all-stater Jayde VanHyfte had 26 points and classmate Kendall Gripp added 17.

The regional championship was the ninth straight for the No. 1 ranked Bravettes (32-0), who venture to the Hinckley Big Rock Sectional to face Serena at 7 p.m. Monday.

Bureau Valley 77, Prophetstown 54: The Storm had five players reach double figures in a TRAC East home win over the Prophets Tuesday. Corbin Endress had 17, Tyler Gustafson finished with 15, Kale Barnett added 14, Andrew Petros poured in 12, and Nate Paup contributed 10 for Bureau Valley. The Storm led 23-7 after the first quarter, and 49-27 at the half.

St. Bede 64, Kewanee 45: St. Bede senior Jackson Funfsinn hit the 1,000 point mark with his first basket of the night, finishing with 32 points to lead the Bruins (6-19, 1-9) to their first TRAC East win of the season Tuesday.

Funfsinn is the eighth Bruin to reach 1,000 career points, ranked seventh on the academy’s all-time scoring charts with 1,030 points.

AFC 64, LaMoille-Ohio 46: LaMoille junior Brady Becker led the Lions (4-19) in both scoring (11) and rebounding (11) at Ohio Tuesday night.
