PRINCETON — The Princeton Shadows of the Blue and Gray has been active for more than two decades now, sharing and portraying the history of the Civil War not only as it was in Illinois but as it was in all the theaters of the Civil War.
Members try to portray the Civil War as it really was and share the experiences that the soldiers and civilians of the time dealt with. Times were tough throughout the country, and Illinois was no different. Families were torn apart, never to see their sons, brothers, fathers, in one piece or at all ever again.
In order to put on this event every year and to continue to make this one of the best re-enactments in Illinois, organizers must raise funds to put on this popular event.
The Shadows of the Blue and Gray Committee will be putting on a drawdown on Saturday, March 10, at the Princeton Elks Lodge. Tickets are $40, and that includes dinner for two. Grand prize is $750, second is $500, and third is $250. Participants in the drawdown do not have to be present to win, but they do have to buy a ticket.
For those who would just like to come and have dinner with committee members and the re-enactors, tickets for dinner alone will be $15 a person. There will be some great door prizes and silent auction items.
