ARLINGTON — Norman Cogdal, 72, of Arlington passed away unexpectedly at 2:59 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born Jan. 4, 1946, in LaSalle to Glenn B. and Gladys (Gabrielson) Cogdal, he married Brenda C. Powers on June 6, 1970, in Arlington.
He had worked for many years as an operating engineer, beginning his career with Roland Machinery of Peru, then Brown and Lambrecht of Joliet and finally Gillan Farms of Cherry. He was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda, of Arlington; his children, Norman (Stephanie) Cogdal of Ft. Worth, Texas, Niwana (Joseph) Hunter of Arlington and Justin (Sarah Carlile) Cogdal of Peru; his grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, Megan, Mariah and Makenzie Cogdal, Kyle, Sarah and Owen Hunter, and Logan Cogdal; his brothers and sisters, Richard (Patti) Cogdal of Crestview, Fla., Roger (Donna Monroe) Cogdal of LaMoille, Sharon (Don) Piller of Mendota, Janice Wamhoff of Princeton, Deb Cogdal of Austin, Texas, Barb (John) Hild of Arlington and Gary (Joan) Cogdal of Channahon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Duane Cogdal; his mother- and father-in-law; one sister-in-law; and one brother-in-law.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Lighthouse Baptist Church (Route 251, LaSalle) with Pastor Tom McMurtry officiating. Burial will follow at Greenfield Cemetery in LaMoille.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at the church, as well as a one half hour before the funeral on Saturday.
The family has entrusted the Barto Funeral Home in Spring Valley to provide services.
