WIN grant applications advance to final presentations

PERU — The next gathering of the Women Inspired Network (WIN) will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Peru.

During the gathering, executive leaders from three local social service agencies will present their proposals for an $8,700 grant being offered by the members of WIN. Voting by WIN members will take place Oct. 1-13 and grant checks will be awarded in November at the first annual WIN Celebration of Giving.

Presenters on Sept. 24, include:

Tracy Beattie, president/CEO of Starved Rock Regional Center, regarding additional resources for the Autism Resource Center.

Executive director Susan Bursztynsky of ADV/SAS, who is also proposing an agency geographic expansion to better serve area residents. ADV/SAS has also requested $2750 for a Recognize, Respond, Refer Awareness Campaign to raise awareness and prevention of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Michael Zernek, executive director of Freedom House, will explain a proposal requesting $8,500 for expansion of the Youth Empowerment Program, which helps pre-teen boys and girls, aged 9-12, improve self-esteem, maintain a positive body image, deal with peer pressure and prevent bullying.

All women are invited to attend WIN gatherings. The Sept. 24 meeting is a salad and dessert potluck and a fee of $2 will be charged for all attendees. RSVP is requested.
