Open house planned at Ozinga Materials

HENRY — An open house is set for Saturday, Sept. 9, for the public to tour the current Ozinga Materials Gravel Pit and the future “Port Of Henry,” located just north of Henry at 1440 County Road 1500 (one mile north of Henry-Senachwine Grade School on Richard Street).

The tour of the mine will highlight how the current site is mined, materials are moved and where the materials are shipped and how they are used in various construction projects. The tour will also explain the short- and long-term plans to transform the current mining activities into a river port.

Gates will open at 9 a.m. All visitors are to park at Ozinga Materials’ Maintenance building located near the entrance just off Richard Street. Tour groups will be staged and then taken by bus to the working pit area. Tours will begin at 9:15 a.m., 9:45 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. A lunch will be served at 11 a.m. Gates will close at noon.
